CALL TO STUDENTS FROM ACCREDITED UNIVERSITIES AND COLLEGES TO PARTICIPATE IN THE
11TH CONTINENTAL ESSAY COMPETITION FOR 2023/2024
The Malawi Bureau of Standards (MBS) in collaboration with the African Organization for Standardization (ARSO) and AMC Group Africa are pleased to announce to all University and College students in Malawi about the 11th Continental Essay Competition.
THEME
Empowering Consumers through Standardization to Achieve their Rights to Safe Quality Goods and Services

ENTRY RULES AND CONDITIONS
1. Participants must be citizens of Malawi below 35 years of age living in Malawi and studying in NCHE accredited University or College.
2. Essays should be between 1,000 – 1,200 words.
3. Essays should be double spaced and presented in Century Gothic, font size 12.
4. It must be submitted in English.
5. Use up to 50 words to describe yourself including name, course and year of study (this is not part of the 1,000 – 1,200 words). |
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR (not necessarily in the order below)
1. The general understanding of Standards and Standardization and the relation with consumers
2. Challenges being faced by consumers and general understanding of the challenges
3. Solutions provided through the implementation of Standards and policy strategies developed nationally and continentally to address challenges of consumers with relation to the theme
4. Precise conclusion with your personal comment and share your essay with the Malawi Bureau of Standards within the set deadlines |
PRIZES FOR WINNERS
NATIONAL LEVEL
1st Position – MWK 350,000
2nd Position – MWK 300,000
3rd Position – MWK 250,000
The top three winners at national level are entered into the regional and continental level |
REGIONAL LEVEL
1st Position – USD 500
2nd Position – USD 300
3rd Position – USD 200 |
CONTINENTAL LEVEL
1st Position – (Male and Female) USD 1000.
2nd Position – USD 800
3rd Position – USD 500

SUBMISSION
Authors should provide their postal, physical, telephone and email addresses on the first page of the essay together with the title of the essay. Also, attach a copy of the National Identity Card or Passport and a completely filled Registration Form that can be obtained from the MBS Head Office in Blantyre, MBS Lilongwe Office and MBS Mzuzu office.

Closing date for receiving applications is Friday, 18th April 2024, at 15h00. The essays can be submitted by e-mail or by hand.
