The Malawi Bureau of Standards (MBS) trained 25 SMEs from Karonga and 26 SMEs from Kasungu from 28th to 31st March 2022 respectively. The training covered food and personal hygiene, food labelling and the entire certification process.

In an effort to enhance the capacity of micro, small and medium enterprises in Malawi to achieve certification through compliance to relevant Malawi standards, MBS and SMEDI signed a memorandum of understanding in which they agreed to increase the number of SMEs joining the MBS certification scheme to allow as many SMEs to penetrate the domestic and export markets. In total, the MBS has trained 372 SMEs from all districts in Malawi.
