A manufacturer wishing to get certified and start using the MBS “Quality Mark” or a certificate, the process is simple. The manufacturer or a service provider makes an application to the MBS expressing interest to enter the certification scheme. An entry payment fee is required.

Then an initial assessment of the factory and the product(s), services or processes is conducted by MBS quality auditors, following the international practices for compliance to the relevant Malawi Standard(s). If approved, the manufacturer or service provider is issued with a pre-permit/pre-designation approval letter to enable them commence full production of their products and access the market or commence provision of a service.

Manufacturers or service providers that complied during the initial assessment and are issued with an approval letter are subsequently inspected on routine bases within the year. If consistency in complying with relevant standards is displayed, a Permit Certificate that allows the use of the Quality Mark on the product(s) or Designation Certificates respectively is issued as a manifestation of compliance to a respective Malawi Standard.
