The newly appointed Minister of Trade and Industry Hon Mark Katsonga Phiri visited the Malawi Bureau of Standards (MBS) on the familiarization tour on 5th February, 2022.
In his welcoming remarks, the Director General of Malawi Bureau of Standards gave the synopsis of the core functions MBS is undertaking under its mandate of promoting standardization and Quality assurance services and enforcing Metrology Act whose objective is to ensure consumer protection from unfair trading practices that rises from measurement, and promotion of competitiveness in trading environments both domestically and internationally.
In his remarks, the minister expressed gratitude to have visited MBS. I wish to state that, MBS is one of the key institutions in my Ministry and therefore my coming to appreciate its mandate and interact with management, marks the beginning of collaboration and teamwork as we work together to achieve Malawi 2063 Vision, the Minister said. The Minister further said, he was proud on various achievements MBS has accomplished amidst economic challenges.
The minister was accompanied by among others, Principle Secretary of industry in the ministry of Trade and Industry Ms Nwazi Nthambala and Principal Secretary responsible for SMEs Mr Francis Zhuwayo. The delegation was later accorded an opportunity to tour the MBS premises both the current facility and new laboratory complex and offices.
