10TH CONTINENTAL ESSAY COMPETITION FOR 2022/2023
The Malawi Bureau of Standards (MBS) in collaboration with the African Organization for Standardization (ARSO) and AMC Group Africa are pleased to announce to all University and College students in Malawi about the 10th Continental Essay competition.
THEME
The role of Standardization in promoting the growth of Micro, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (MSMEs) for sustainable, inclusive and diversified industrial and economic development in Africa.

ENTERY RULES AND CONDITIONS
Participants must be Citizens of Malawi below 35 years of age living in Malawi and studying in NCHE accredited University or College.
Essays should be between 1,000 – 1,200 words.
Essays should be double spaced and presented in Century Gothic, font size 12.
It must be submitted in English.
Use up to 50 words to describe yourself including name, course and year of study (this is not part of the 1,000 – 1,200 words). |
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR(Not Necessarily in the order below)
How to reduce poor market access by SMEs, due to non-compliance with the market regulatory requirements and poor Quality products
The problems facing the Micro, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises
Solutions provided through the implementation of Standards in MSMEs to improve their competitive advantage
General understanding of Standards and specific issues affecting players
Policy strategies developed to address problems facing the Micro, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises in Africa |
PRIZES FOR WINNERS
NATIONAL LEVEL
1st Position – MWK 250,000.
2nd Position – MWK 200,000.
3rd Position – MWK 150,000.
The top three winners at national level are entered into the regional and continental level |
REGIONAL LEVEL
1st Position – USD 500.
2nd Position – USD 300.
3rd Position – USD 200. |
CONTINENTAL LEVEL
1st Position – (Male and Female) USD 1000.
2nd Position – USD 800
3rd Position – USD 500

SUBMISSION
Authors should provide their postal, physical, telephone and email addresses on the first page of the essay together with the title of the essay. Also attach a copy of the National Identity Card or Passport and completely filled Registration Form that can be obtained from the MBS Head Office in Blantyre, MBS Lilongwe Office and MBS Mzuzu office.

Closing date for receiving applications is Friday, 4th April 2023, at 15h00. The essays can be submitted by e-mail or by hand.
